Do you need to get the word out about your business or your books? Have you been in business for years, but it hasn't grown? There are ways to increase business and visibility in your community. Ways exist to tap into your existing customer base to increase business and your customer base. Let's sit down and find some ways to market your books and your business. I am a firm believer in finding inexpensive ways to promote your business.
Some marketing examples are listed below. These ideas are not usually industry specific. There may be ways to make these things work for your business. Or, I can work to find unique, creative and memorable marketing plans for your business. The details listed below are from my promotional experience.

Affiliate Marketing Forum -
- I moderated an online marketing forum at www.affcommunity.com. Part of my duties included keeping members in line, upholding forum policies, writing marketing articles and offering marketing advise to the members. I wrote a large number of articles for the Affiliate Marketing Blog for the same company. The website is www.affiliatemarketingblog.com, but the site was rebuilt and my articles are gone. A concise list of the articles by subject are listed on my Marketing Articles page. Some of these articles and other marketing articles are published on other websites and online e-zines.
Writing Projects -
- Creation of website to promote my fictional town and characters. I use a web hosting site which allows me to do extensive tracking. This helps me know what advertising ideas are working and more importantly, which ones are not.
- Developed and facilitate a series of classes on character development. This gives me exposure and to increase my potential customer base.
- Have developed a six week class on book marketing with many ways to promote any business online and offline. I am considering expanding the class outline into a book. The book will also focus on many ways to promote yourself and your product or service with low cost options.
e-publisher -
- Searched online to find free places to target potential writers and to advertise that we were accepting completed manuscripts.
- Offered suggestions to new authors on plans to promote their books.
- Followed up with interested individuals to persuade them to submit their books for consideration.
- Offered suggestions to reorganize the website and make it more user friendly and effective.
Construction Office -
- Analyzed existing advertising to find what was working. Compiled data about each call that came into office to track what advertising worked.
- Negotiated with local telephone directory representatives to get best prices and exposure for that money.
- Added or cut advertising to reflect revised business plans.

- Developed customized mailing lists based on existing customer base.
- Created direct mail marketing pieces for existing customers.
- Maintained mailing list for potential customers.
- Designed company logo to use within all advertising - phone book ads, job yard signs, shirts for employees and information packets.
- Designed booth to be built for local Home Shows. This booth won an award at one show. We received positive comments from many show attendees. Assembled information, visual aids, product samples, and informed people for the booth to assist people who visited us.
- Created information packets to mail or hand out to potential referral sources and potential customers. Designed flyers to promote individual services that were offered.
- Found a free online photo album service. Developed 19 online albums to promote business services. This offers a free tracking service to insure that the albums were being accessed. Free albums were created to test whether the internet would be beneficial for the business. This was done before launching a website for the business. I wanted to be sure it was worthwhile before spending the money for domain name, hosting and web design.
- Developed website which has grown to 39 pages to promote many facets of the business. The website is used extensively to help educate potential clients and provide additional information for existing customers. This website is currently being rebuilt.
Hair Salon
- Develop creative marketing ideas to include a possibility to promote business to local health club members. Also, working on a fundraising opportunity to gain free advertising for salon and benefit local non profit organization. Plan to gather names for new mailing list.

Chiropractor's Office
- See event and fundraising page.
- ttended marketing seminar out of state to meet with other doctors and learn new marketing options.
- Did extensive internet research to find marketing materials and ideas.
- Developed newspaper advertisements and negotiated prices with paper representatives.
- Created in store ways to promote and acquire new clients.
- Planned, promoted and scheduled in services for other doctors, attorneys, and insurance agents and adjusters to educate our target markets.
Video Store -
- Developed newspaper advertising and negotiated prices with sales reps.
- Created in store promotions to increase individual ticket prices.
- Designed in store movie sale and dramatically increased sales numbers.
- Coordinated special promotions for events such as Academy Awards gala.
Pizza Store -
- Appointed marketing manager for three stores.
- Assisted in the development of coupon for direct mail pieces.
- Worked with post office on direct mail pieces and mailing lists.
- Worked on special events with JMU students on special events.
